Outkast ATLast ::: Your Guide to an ATLien Days 1 & 2

It's finally upon us, the long awaited return of Atlanta's native first sons, Outkast. The three day weekend announced in June has been a much longer time coming.

You Ought to Hear More....

First, a GIANT thank you to The Bowery Presents: South for coordinating this dream come true and picking up the giant ball dropped by other entertainment companies. If you're not familiar with the event organizers they are based in Atlanta and specialize in concert promotion and booking. With a focus on shows at venues in Atlanta, New Orleans, Birmingham and other cities in the Southeast they have graced us with many acts that previous overlooked the South. Their parent company, The Bowery Presents, books concerts and operates multiple venues in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia and Portland, Me.

This concert weekend will include 3 days of Atlanta focused ecstasy inducing eargasms in the heart of Atlanta's downtown. Each of the three days includes a different undercard well worth the price of admission. Friday brings a lineup built around radio play, that most people will recognize. Saturday (the originally announced lineup) includes some of the best lyricists in the rap game and pretty impressive Hollywood credentials. In classic fashion the weekend comes to a close with nostalgic 90's lineup that will bring Atlanta to it's knees.

Friday, September 26th
Day one of Outkast Weekend brings an undercard line up two-thirds ATLiens, the lone non-native being Solange Knowles. The Houston born singer, songwriter made headlines earlier this year with through a physical altercation with her brother-in-law, Jay-Z. Beyonce's younger sister first turned heads as an opening act for Destiny's Childs in the early 2000s.  The album touched upon a variety of genres including Pop-soul, psychedelic soul, electronica, R&B. Knowles debut extended play True is a new wave album with Knowles stating, "This is a dance record, but the lyrics can get pretty dark at times." Knowles described the EP as "eclectic with '80s references and African percussion influences."
Fellow Atlantan Future has been added to the lineup to replace an ill Solange

If you're not familiar with 30 year old Atlanta native, Future all you need to know if he reps the A well. As he shared the stage with Outkast at their first show in years at Coachella he donned a throwback Deion Sanders Falcons jersey. His talent goes well beyond his closet though. His latest studio album, Honest, features appearances by the whose who of the hip hip game including Kanye WestRihannaDrakeKelly RowlandCiaraJeremihAndre 3000, and Diplo, among others. His name came about after members of the musical collective The Dungeon Family called him "The Future".

Solange's dazzling set will set a nice pace for Atlanta's adopted daughter, Janelle Monae. The singer has implanted herself into America's hearts with her infectious smile, psychedelic soulful sound, and Michael Jacksonesque dance moves. Shortly after moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 2001, she met Big Boi, and then founded the Wondaland Arts Society with some like-minded young artists, releasing her first EP The Audition in 2003. Despite less than stellar sales it did showcase her impressive vocal abilities and unique Metropolis concept that would also figure in her future releases. Monáe later appeared on OutKast's Idlewild release, where she is featured on the songs "Call the Law" and "In Your Dreams." Chico Dusty told his friend Sean Combs about Monáe and the rest, as they say, is history. She signed to Bad Boys records releasing two albums since, the latest The Electric Lady maxing out many star ratings from various publication. Atlanta's Paste magazine placed "Q.U.E.E.N." at number one on its list of "The 50 Best Songs of 2013".

College Park's own Tauheed Epps, better known as 2 Chainz, will continue the escalating ramp up to the main attraction. The former Alabama State student-athlete will bring a collection of his own songs of his two studio albums as well as a fair share of collaborations with some of the biggest names in the game today. If the first two acts don't get you hyfie, the bass alone from 2 Chainz should get you in the groove for an unforgettable show.  At the very least he will be well fed for this homecoming, as he recently ate the world's most expensive burger

You've most likely barely heard of the weekend's youngest performer, Raury despite being born and raised in East Atlanta.  Before signing to Columbia Records this summer, Raury spent years making music. Inspired by everyone from Kid Cudi to André 3000, Bon Iver and more, the artist/songwriter/producer is simply trying to start a revolution. Beautifully enough the recent high school graduate melds together hip-hop, indie rock, and many other genres akin to the other two acts on Saturday's undercard. Similar to his lineup mates, Raury has a vision blanketing ventures far beyond just music. If the You Ought To Hear This endorsement doesn't move you, Yeezus himself recently named Raury his favorite new artist

The Cleveland, Ohio born Scott Mescudi his talents were always obvious to those around him. After moving to Brooklyn taking the moniker Kid Cudi he became an online sensation in 2008. In 2009, Cudi's debut single "Day 'n' Nite", reached the top five of the Billboard charts. "Day 'n' Nite" was included on the mixtape as well as his debut studio album Man on the Moon: The End of Day (2009), which was certified gold. His sophomore release Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager debuted at number three on the Billboard charts and further established his name. A little over a year later Cudi joined as part of the duo known as WZRD and released their debut album to mixed reviews. He then returned to his hip hop roots for the release of 2013's Indicud and last month's Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon.

You Ought To Hear This has never been shy about our unabashed love for all things Donald Glover. From the inception of Childish Gambio it's been all hands on deck. The actor, writer, producer, comedian, and rapper has excelled at everything he's tried his hand at. Like Raury, Gambino was raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia. His father is a retired postal worker and his mother is a retired daycare provider were also foster parents and Jehovah's Witnesses. After discovering his stage name via a Wu-Tang name generator Childish began releasing a series of mixtapes mostly rapping over indie tracks starting in 2008. Over a two year span he created Sick Boi, Poindexter, I AM JUST A RAPPER, I AM JUST A RAPPER 2, and Culdesac all while developing and touring his stand-up comedy, writing for '30 Rock' and Mystery Team and beginning work on 'Community'. He signed with Glassnote Records in 2011 and released his first full length album Camp, a concept album. Following the news of his departure from 'Community' he released his sophomore album 'because the internet' another concept album with an accompanying screenplay.
