Festival Spotlight ::: 2016 Shaky Knees Music Festival

We’ve been blessed with another amazing Shaky Knees lineup. The fourth installment of the 3-day Atlanta rock festival will take place at Centennial Olympic Park on May 13-15 2016. If you’re worried about Knees’ fourth change in venue in four years, don’t be. Centennial has successfully hosted many events over the past few years including; Outkast ATLast, Mumford & Son’s Gentlemen of the Road, Foo Fighters, and Sweetwater 420 Festival. With each year and each change in venue there have been pluses and minuses.

When their first track, 'Cause I'm a Man', was released, my instant reaction was trepidation. I was excited that one of my favorite bands was making new work. That excitement was instantaneously eclipsed by fear that our Australian, psychedelic geniuses would not be able to outdo their 2012 brilliant, shining record 'Lonerism'. As I streamed the track, the fear subsided and I was back in 2012 -  flowing and getting lost in Kevin Parker's meticulous attention to detail; casually mixing and manipulating sounds to complement his sometimes enigmatic lyrics. Except this time, despite the bloops and blorps of producing, one thing was glaringly clear.

Over the past 24 hours I’ve listened to a man completely expose himself; the good, the bad, the ugly. Father John Misty’s newest album ‘I Love You, Honeybear’ is a true and honest approach about his experience with falling in love with his wife. It isn’t intentionally gushy and is very raw. Love is a beautiful thing but it hasn’t been pretty.
