Bonnaroo Artist Countdown ::: 70 Days ::: Purity Ring

Artist 70 ::: Purity Ring
Genre ::: Synthpop

Canadians Megan James and Corin Roddick make up the synthpop duo Purity Ring.  Considered by many to be one of the top breakout albums of 2012, Purity Ring's Shrines was immediately different than it's peers at the time of release. In no time, singles "Obedear","Fineshrine", "Ungirthed", and the album defining "Belispeak" were in heavy rotation on college radio and indie stations across the country.

The hallmark of  Shrines is James' haunting lyrics carefully lain over Roddick's bass heavy undertones. The album was uniquely created with each member living in a different part of Canada, Roddick creating the beats in Montreal and James (Halifax) emailing the vocals to overlay.  Initial reaction to such a process would be to expect a disjointed album with consistency issues. Miraculously the impossible is achieved and Purity Ring was able to create "audible porn."  Shrines is best consumed using headphones to absorb the full impact of Roddick's beats and James vulnerable vocals.

Purity Ring's live show is an overwhelming onslaught for the senses.  Using an intricate light show that can be triggered by touch and music James is able to capture the audience's attention while Roddick's beats invade the subconscious.  This will be Purity Ring's first trip to the farm, and they will certainly be an acted that is on everyone's "Best of Bonnaroo" following the festival.

Still not convinced they're worth checking out on the Farm? Check out this write up on their amazing light show and overall performances here
