Although physically born in Alabama, Phosphorescent front man, Matt Houck's musical birth took place in Athens, GA. Being born twice in a lifetime, well that is something worth singing about.
For the past decade (plus), Matt Houck has evolved from one moniker to a steamrolling, album producing machine. Not to infer that he's fast paced by any measure. I liken Phosphorescent's sound to a twangy tangle of Willie Nelson and Paul Simon. When it's deep, there's drama. When it's light, it's bright.
Muchacho (2013) is Phosphorescent's sixth studio album and most critically acclaimed. The track "Song for Zula" has been heard in many films and heavily rotated on playlists all over. With a melody on constant repeat, it takes it's time, it pulls you in, it breaks your heart. The man can get to you.
I'm hoping this most recent stint of shows means that Phosphorescent will be trying out new material. I have no clue what they've been up to, aside from touring their asses off, maybe a baby was born (?), maybe they recording something anything. Oh well, you know what they say. The road is the best muse.
