Bonnaroo Artist Countdown ::: 98 ::: Earl Sweatshirt

Artist 98 ::: Earl Sweatshirt
Genre ::: Alternative Hip-Hop
Earl Sweatshirt may be more of a mystery in the musical world than Rodriguez. After releasing his debut album Earl at 16, OFWGKTA member was absent from the group for nearly two years. Though he returned shortly before his 18th birthday, and started showing up to tours and interviews in the middle of March 2012. It was rumored that his mother sent him to an all-boys boarding school for kids in Samoa, not because she disagreed with his choice to rap, but because he was getting mixed up in the wrong things. Earl confirmed in an interview after returning to the U.S. that he attended a therapeutic retreat school for at-risk boys situated outside the Samoan capital of Apia called Coral Reef Academy, because he was getting himself into trouble. Before his brief hiatus from the group he gained quite a bit of notoriety for his debut album. Tyler the Creator, the 'leader' of Odd Future and best friend to Earl, was quoted as saying Earl was a better album all around than Nas' Illmatic, many consider the GOAT hip hop album, which brought out a lot of criticism. The first single off his upcoming album, Doris, is titled Chum and is one of the best songs I've heard recently. With little change in inflection during the four return it's hard to not hear multiple changes in emotion.
